The Department of Zoology regularly conducts programs like Social surveys, Exhibitions, Seminars, Workshops and other socially valuable activities which are contributing to personal development of the students and useful service to the society.
The Department was an integral part of many health missions of the Department of Health, and Department of Animal Husbandry, Govt. of Kerala by participating with the antimalarial, anti-rabbies programs. Students of the department of Zoology has actively participated in disseminating the anti- filarial awareness among communities in Palakkad which are socially economically weak. Faculty of our department is engaged as members of the National Tiger Conservation Authority.
The post flood research works conducted by the post graduate students among the flood affected areas related to microbial resistance and antibiotic resistivity of sick people against infections are some of the good examples to be projected out.
The Department of Zoology is currently working on several aspects of COVID -19 and its impact on the society using online survey platforms
The department of Zoology open up its Rich repository of biological specimens and scientific resources by conducting exhibitions (“Natura” series of Exhibitions, Shasthrayan etc. ) in order to boost the scientific temper of young minds in schools and among general public of Palakkad district. We also provide extension services to researchers on our Microbial and Molecular Biology facilities.
The department of Zoology is an active partner of Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parishath in conducting science awareness programmes and student training programmes and workshops every year for the school students of Palakkad like SHASTHRA PADHAM and SHASTHRAJALAKAM by SCERT, Kerala. The faculties of the department of Zoology often provide extension lectures to students of other Colleges and Schools at Palakkad and to the general public free of cost to boost the scientific temper of the community. Faulty members function as subject experts in various programmes organised by SCERT and KSCSTE.
The student support programs like CSIR-UGC JRF-NET coaching classes conducted for the passed out and ongoing students of the department and PSC coaching classes conducted for higher secondary teacher selection examinations are one among many teaching learning support programs offered by the department in addition to remedial classes and scholar support programs.
