Program Outcomes (PO)

U.G. Program Outcomes

 

Language and Literature : To know the scope and importance of language and literature. To assess historical and cultural aspects, to develop communicative skills, to compare the traditional knowledge with contemporary wisdom. Language studies help to appreciate classical literature. It imparts a sense of aesthetic and cultural values

 

 Social Sciences – A basic understanding of theories in social sciences will help to sharpen analytical skills. An insight into socio- economic and political situations based on historical perspectives will help the students assimilate and analyse data. The programmes helps to make inroads into policy making and forecasting.

 

Commerce – The programme helps in acquiring knowledge and skills regarding accounting, management, marketing, taxation, investment and legal aspects of starting and continuing a business organisation.

 

Life Sciences :   The programme helps in identifying the assumptions,  checking out the degree to which these assumptions are accurate and valid, and making decisions (intellectual, organizational, and personal) from different perspectives. Understand the issues of environmental contexts and sustainable development.

 

Physical Sciences – Understand the basic concepts of methodology of science and the fundamentals of physical sciences. It helps in setting a theoretical framework incorporating the various scientific methods. Apply and verify theoretical concepts through laboratory experiments. It helps in developing a scientific temper.

 

Mathematics, Computer Science  and Statistics- This programme explores the physical and quantitative working of numbers, matter, and life. Through observation, experimentation, and scientific and mathematical reasoning, they seek to comprehend the world and model its operations. An ability to apply mathematical foundations, statistical methods, algorithmic principles, and computer science theory in the modeling and design of computational systems in a way that demonstrates comprehension of the tradeoffs involved in design choices.

Program Specific Outcomes (PSO)

English Language and Literature

 

The programme encourages the students to read the various genres of literature in English    and other languages using the appropriate literary strategies. It helps them acquire a thorough knowledge of the different ages and periods of British literature.

 

Awareness of the multiple writings of the world such as the postcolonial, exposure to the marginalised and the disenfranchised like the women, Latino and dalit literature, foreign influences in the literature and languages, language families, linguistic aspects like   spelling, pronunciation, morphemes, phonemes and syntax are imparted to the students.

 

Practical skills of writing and the development of linguistic, cognitive and logical skills in the preparation of academic papers and reports are given to the students.

 

Malayalam Language and Literature

 

The programme imparts knowledge about Malayalam language and literature. It helps to understand the tradition and culture of Kerala. The programme helps to study the historical evolution of language and literature. It develops an insight into classical and contemporary literature. To develop critical thinking and appreciation of classical works in Malayalam.

 

Sanskrit Language and Literature

 

The programme helps to internalize basic structure of Sanskrit language. It develops interacting and communicating skills in Sanskrit. It helps to understand the ancient Indian tradition and culture through a critical approach. It develops an analytic method and critical thinking in Sanskrit literature and regional cultures. Evaluate the traditional knowledge and relate it to contemporary socio-cultural scenario.

 

Tamil Language and Literature

 

Through this programme the students acquire knowledge of Tamil language, literature and culture. It helps them have a thorough knowledge of linguistic studies, it makes them proficient in careers connected to media and journalism.  They acquire a working skill in translations. Archeology related studies enable the students to imbibe traditional values and culture.

 

Hindi Language and Literature

 

The programme encompasses various aspects of Hindi language and literature such as ancient, medieval and modern Hindi literature. It provides the students with a working knowledge of linguistics and grammar. The study of functional Hindi, translations and journalism help them secure jobs in media and communication. The programme imparts job opportunities in state and central  government services as translators, Hindi offices and interpreters.

 

Economics

 

The programme imparts an aptitude to understand the economic situation of the country. Analytical skills are inculcated to help the students become economic analysts. The projects done during the programme helps in performing empirical data analysis using software packages. Knowledge of economics helps the students to gain insights into various government policies; budget, taxation and expenditure policies, foreign policies, trade policies etc. It creates the groundwork for enhancing ability in policy making and forecasting.

 

 History

 

Programme outcomes (Pos) and Programme specific outcomes (PSOs) are to be judged from the number of placements the students get. The department of history is aiming at producing the right type of candidates for various jobs in history and other sectors. Students have entered various fields – cinema, media, teaching etc.

 

Botany

 

The programme helps to understand the role of plants in sustaining life on earth and the interrelationship between human beings and nature, create awareness on natural resources and their importance in sustainable development, analyze the importance of biodiversity conservation, estimate biodiversity loss and develop conservation strategies. It enables the students to identify and classify plants according to the principles of plant systematics, apply techniques like plant propagation methods, organic farming, mushroom cultivation, preparation of biofertilizers, biopesticides etc. in daily life.

 

Zoology

 

The programme inculcates interest in nature and living forms and their conservation. It makes the students eco-friendly by creating a sense of environmental awareness in them. It gives better exposure to the diversity of life forms. The programme gives awareness about natural resources and their importance in sustainable development. It encourages the students to study different ecological sites for animals in their natural habitats by field study.  It develops skills in doing experiments, familiarizing equipments and biological specimens. It encourages undertaking scientific projects which help to develop research aptitude in students.

 

Chemistry

 

The programme gives a comprehensive understanding of the principles of chemistry. It helps the students to understand the properties of atoms, the forces between them, and how they react to other elements. It helps the students distinguish between organic and inorganic matter, the physical forces that govern atoms, and how scientists can predict an element’s behaviour based on its atomic makeup. Students grapple with modern theories like quantum mechanics, which seek to explain the behaviour of matter. They are offered the opportunity to perform open-ended experiments, trying out different solutions to chemistry problems posed to them. The  students master a variety of analytical techniques. The students can opt for careers in  pharmacology, chemical engineering, electrochemistry or nanotechnology.   students can specialise in fields like biochemistry, medicine, environmental chemistry or sustainability. It  also include options for the students to learn about the applications of chemistry in industry from a business perspective.

 

Physics

 

Understand the basic concepts of methodology of science and the fundamentals of mechanics, properties of matter and electrodynamics.  Understand the theoretical basis of quantum mechanics, relativistic physics, nuclear physics, optics, spectroscopy, solid state physics, astrophysics, statistical physics, photonics and thermodynamics.  Understand and apply the concepts of electronics in the designing of different analog and digital circuits.  Understand the basics of computer programming and numerical analysis. Apply and verify theoretical concepts through laboratory experiments.

 

Mathematics

 

This programme explores the physical and quantitative working of numbers, matter, and life. Through observation, experimentation, and scientific and mathematical reasoning, they seek to comprehend the world and model its operations. An ability to apply mathematical foundations, algorithmic principles, and computer science theory in the modeling and design of computational systems in a way that demonstrates comprehension of the tradeoffs involved in design choices. The programme gives students a rigorous education in discrete mathematics and computer science theory.

 

Computer Science

 

The programme seeks to generate a powerful and skilled workforce for the empowering digital world. Data science and artificial intelligence (AI) as subsets of computer science allow people and organizations to accelerate and ‘prepackage thought.’ Effective utilization of their knowledge of computing principles and mathematical theory helps to develop sustainable solutions to current and future computing problems.

 

 Commerce

 

The programme creates a batch of well trained professionals to the organisations in the financial services sector.  The programme familiarizes the students with the concepts of recent trends in management and organizational behaviour. It helps to create awareness among the students about an ideal organizational culture. The programme provides a strong base for the students to pursue professional courses like CA, CS, ACCA and CMA. Students will acquire knowledge and skills in decision making, problem solving and business analysis. Students will get the practical skills required for an accountant job, tax consultant, tax consultant and computer assistants.

 

Statistics

 

The programme gives students a thorough understanding of statistical methods and research tools. Effective utilization of their knowledge of computing principles and mathematical theory helps to develop sustainable solutions to current and future computing problems. It enables students to inculcate analytical ability in finding solutions to mathematically formulated problems. Data analysis and study of software packages help the students in careers as statisticians. It generates a powerful and skilled workforce for processing and analyzing data. Forecasting is an integral part of statistical methods enabling the students to frame policies.
