About the Department

The department of Commerce of Govt Victoria College has the distinction of being the pioneer in Commerce education in the state of Kerala.The department began its journey in the year 1954 with an undergraduate programme aimed at developing and nurturing global competencies among students through quality education and research. The Department focuses on the multifaceted human resource development of the students anticipating covetable academic achievements that will assure them excellent career prospects in life. The department was upgraded to the Post Graduate Department in 1999. The department started B. Com Honours in 2013 and is the one and only department in Kerala offering this programme.

Majority of our students are pursuing professional courses like C.A, ACCA, CMA, and MBA after their graduation. A good number of our students are practicing Chartered Accountant. A majority of our postgraduate students are clearing NET and JRF exams consistently every year. Our students have been receiving campus placements in South Indian Bank, Federal Bank, and other prestigious institutions. The academic and career progression of our students is really a matter of great pride for us.

The Department is committed to integrate all facets of commerce and management to educate and train innovative and competent human resources globally suitable for industry, business and service sectors and to equip and encourage them to start their own ventures in urban or rural areas benefiting both the classes and masses.

To prepare students for higher education and research in Commerce, Management and Business Studies.
